چکیده

We investigated the polymorphic tetranucleotide repeat (TTTA)n located in the fourth intron of the CYP19 gene in two Brazilian populations. The frequencies of the five common alleles (A) in Euroand Afro-Brazilians were, respectively: seven repeats (A5), 0.586 and 0.80; eight repeats (A4), 0.092 and 0.06; nine repeats (A3), 0.014 and 0.01; eleven repeats (A2), 0.284 and 0.09; twelve repeats (A1), 0.021 and 0.04. In addition, one Euro-Brazilian individual had a rare allele with 13 repeats. The allelic frequencies in Euroand Afro-Brazilians differed statistically (p < 10).The two samples were found to be in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (p = 0,828 and p = 0,995).

The association of aromatase (CYP19) gene variants with sperm concentration and motility.

The irreversible transformation of androgens into oestrogens is catalysed by cytochrome P450 aromatase. In the present study, we explored the contribution of the (TTTA)(n) polymorphism in the aromatase gene (CYP19) to sperm concentration and motility. Ninety normozoospermic and 60 oligospermic men were examined during infertility examinations. DNA was extracted from spermatozoa, and the CYP19 (...

No association between a tetranucleotide repeat polymorphism of CYP19 and prostate cancer.

The CYP19 gene encodes the enzyme aromatase, which plays a key role in the conversion of androgen to estrogen. The prostate is influenced by estrogen from peripheral sources as well as through aromatase activity in its stroma (1). There is evidence of elevated levels of aromatase activity and mRNA expression in stromal cells in prostate cancer as well as increasing evidence of cross-talk betwee...

The (TTTA)n polymorphism of aromatase (CYP19) gene is associated with age at menarche.

BACKGROUND Twin studies have shown that age at menarche may be subject to hereditary influences but the specific determinants are unknown. Estrogens are known to have an important role in menarche. Since the enzyme aromatase is responsible for the conversion of androgens to estrogens, the aromatase (CYP19) gene could be a candidate gene for the regulation of menarche. The aim of this study was ...

The association between genetic polymorphisms in CYP19 and breast cancer risk in Korean women.

Aromatase encoding by the CYP19 gene catalyzes the conversion of androgens to estrogens. In order to determine if polymorphisms of the CYP19 gene are associated with breast cancer risk, we analyzed the frequency of tetranucleotide (TTTA) tandem repeats and a 3-bp insertion (I)/deletion (D) polymorphism in intron 4 of the CYP19 gene in genomic DNA from 70 Korean breast cancer patients and 102 ag...

Polymorphisms in the human aromatase cytochrome P450 gene (CYP19) and breast cancer risk.

The aromatase enzyme catalyses the conversion of androgens to oestrogens in the oestrogen biosynthesis pathway. Because increased exposure to oestrogens is considered to be a risk factor for breast cancer, the human aromatase gene (CYP19) is a plausible candidate for low penetrance breast cancer susceptibility. Preliminary reports have suggested that specific alleles of a TTTA repeat may be ass...
